The Absence of Light
Here the Bones Lie
Eliza lives a solidarity life on the Oregon coast, having grown up in the foster care system she tends to keep to herself. Goes to work to do her job, then goes home to her hobby of collecting old journals and reading the about the lives of people who have long passed, enjoying the connections brought by reading the intimate parts of their lives despite barely living her own. One day at an estate sale, she finds and purchases an old journal that is over a hundred years old. Inside, each entry is written by a different author, each one containing the details of a murder. Each person had their reasons for why they did it and it is all detailed in the journal, despite the varying circumstances they all deposit the bodies in the same mass grave. Each entry she reads makes her more obsessed with finding the grave, even though she wants to go to the police with what she’s read, she cannot bring herself to do so. Something inside won’t let her turn this info in nor let her stop reading, she must now find where the bones lie, under the bramble and briar, an unknown force driving her mad to do so.
